Stick to It: The Secret to Changes That Last!
⭐️Turn resolutions into routines —one small step at a time.
The end of the year is a time for reflection. A chance to look back at what you’ve accomplished, where you started, where you are now, what you wished you’d done, the resolutions you made, and those you forgot about. You know the deal.
The good news is you’re still here. That’s a great start. You’ve likely had some bad days and hopefully plenty of good ones. No matter what, you got through it all. Congratulations.
I don’t put much thought into New Year's resolutions. People tend to make big plans for big changes and jump in head first, only to go back to old habits before the holiday hangover has time to pass.
By the time spring is in the air, the resolutions are long forgotten, and it’s back to where you began. New year, same story.
You see, CHANGE TAKES TIME.
Most modifications you will make won’t happen overnight - especially when you vow to alter many things at once. This goes for everything from diet to relationships and careers - big and small, they all take conscious effort and consistency.
Take one small step every week. Break your life-changing resolutions into smaller pieces. Tackle one action at a time. Try one new thing each week, repeating it every day. Make it part of your routine, and then add another.
Of course, you should keep that big goal. You should reach for whatever it is that will bring you happiness in the new year. But if you want the best odds of achieving it, don’t bite off more than you can chew.
As cliche as it is, slow and steady DOES win the race. It may take a little longer, but you WILL get there. Not only will you get there, but you will have built the habits to STAY there.
In addition, those small wins will continue to motivate you through the process!
So, take the next couple of weeks to evaluate your resolutions. Think about where you’d like to be a year from now, what you’d like to do, and who you’d like to do it with.
Take some time to plan ahead. Visualize the future you want to create. Then, break each bigger goal into smaller ones to give yourself the best chance to succeed.
⭐️And most importantly, BELIEVE IN YOURSELF. Because if you don’t honestly think you can change, you never will.
