Real Talk: The Power of Owning Your Truth!

⭐️Embrace honesty and be unapologetically you.

Since moving to Arizona ten years ago, many people have said they love New Yorkers because they always tell you exactly how they feel. They appreciate the bluntness and honesty.

I mean, why wouldn’t you? Until I left NY, I never knew there was any other way to be!

In addition to my East Coast upbringing, with age, I became more comfortable speaking my mind and being authentic to myself, my feelings, and my response to others.

Growing up, I was more of a people-pleaser. I often spent time with people I didn’t necessarily want to be with or doing things I had no interest in. I knew nothing would come of any of it, but I didn’t want to disappoint others or make them feel bad.

The thing is, I was making MYSELF feel bad. I prioritized everyone and everything else while putting myself and my priorities last.

I got to a point in life where I made a conscious decision to say “f**k it” because I finally understood that my responsibility is to be authentic and approach others honestly. It is NOT my responsibility how they react to that.

I tell people the truth, even when it’s uncomfortable. I tell people ‘no’ when I can’t or don’t want to do something. I do it out of respect for myself and my boundaries, and I understand it's completely okay to do so.

Sometimes, expressing yourself can feel uncomfortable in the moment, but once it’s out there, it’s not up to you how it’s received. Being true to yourself attracts people who appreciate that honesty and give it back.

In addition, keeping feelings inside to avoid conflict only causes inner turmoil. It can also help you weed out relationships that have misguided or ill intentions.

So, try not to worry about how others will react to YOUR feelings. Don’t stress over potentially disappointing them. That is THEIR choice, just as being true to yourself is yours.

I always encourage people to get out of their comfort zone. It’s a great way to grow. However, you need to be honest with yourself:

Are you uncomfortable because you’re doing it for someone else, and it doesn’t align with you? Or are you getting out of your comfort zone for yourself?

Make yourself a priority. Always. 🙏🏼
