Press Pause: The Secret to Boosting Your Productivity and Creativity
⭐️Be your best without the burnout
Many years ago, I asked a friend to help me with a small part of a very large project I decided to take on. He obliged, as any good friend would, but he also looked at the work I had created for myself and told me, “You need to learn how to be bored.”
I laughed, but that has stuck with me to this day. I’ve thought about it often over the years, especially when it’s late at night and I’m on my couch doing something because I feel lazy if I just sit there, watching something mindless on TV.
Only recently have I learned that this is just another form of anxiety - one of the many I developed throughout my life. It took even longer for me to decide to take time to chill - to understand that it’s okay to enjoy the passage of time or those mindless activities that help to disconnect from the business and stress of everyday life.
As with most things in life, maintenance is cheaper and easier in the long run than repair when it comes to our minds and bodies.
There is great value in learning how to rest and reset. It inspires creativity, improves clarity and focus, boosts energy, enhances emotional well-being, strengthens resilience, and enhances long-term success. (I’d be happy to get into more detail if you’d like to chat about it :-)
I’m sure you’ve heard some sayings about filling your cup before you can help fill others and things like that - and it’s true. But how can you fill your cup if you’re constantly on the go, charging full speed ahead? I mean, picture it. It just doesn’t work.
I’ve used many methods I coach others about, such as meditation, journaling, and getting out in nature. Still, I had difficulty letting go and thoroughly enjoying the time without worrying about how I would make up the work and time I ‘missed’ while doing it.
I’ve been focusing more lately on simply relaxing- going out in nature and taking it all in. I'm giving myself grace for the time I spend doing ‘nothing’ because this helps me be more productive, patient, and creative the rest of the time.
So, take time to relax and reset. Do whatever makes you feel peaceful, even if it seems forced at first. Learn to be bored. There is a vast difference between relaxation and laziness.
We only have a certain amount of energy; sometimes, we use it just to survive. So don’t beat yourself up for enjoying the simple things. You earned it.
Your body needs it. Your mind needs it. That time and presence benefit you and, in turn, everyone around you.
Love,
Coach Jess 💕
