Grateful & Thriving: The Power of Appreciation in Your Life
⭐️Shift your focus, change your life—gratitude is the key!
Regardless of who you are, we each play many life roles. Each is important in its own way - altering which and when depending on.. well, life.
At times, everything feels balanced, while at other moments, it's as if you’re learning to juggle, and someone just handed you a bunch of bowling balls. No one has it all together all the time, and often, even when we’re performing a circus act on the inside, everything appears just fine on the outside.
Think about the roles you play in life. Imagine them as actual objects you’re carrying. How would you feel if one of them broke? Could any of them be replaced?
I’ve spent a long time practicing gratitude. I journal about it almost daily, and I encourage others to do the same. In doing so, I’ve learned something valuable: the most important things in our lives cannot be replaced.
Even if you think that sounds silly, take a minute to write down a few things in life you’re thankful for. What do you see?
Let me share my own because I think you’ll find most of us are very similar. In repeating this practice, what makes me most grateful are not “things.” It’s the people in my life. It’s the time I have. Those always come out on top. The one thing they have in common: NEITHER CAN BE REPLACED.
Applying this to my own balancing act, when faced with big changes or challenges, I can adopt a different mindset. It becomes easier to accept those things, knowing that something else will come along to take their place—another job, another problem, another decision—whatever it is.
There is greater value in maintaining the relationships that are important to me and how I spend my time because I've become very aware that I can’t get them back once they’re gone.
When you feel overwhelmed and weighed down by responsibilities, take a few minutes to list them. Then, see what is most important to you. What should be a priority and what should you let go - even for the time being while you work on the rest.
You are not alone. We are all out here just trying to figure it out. Take the time to figure out what’s important TO YOU. What holds the most value? What would you not want to live without?
Practicing gratitude is an easy way to stay in control - especially when you feel like you have none. It helps you make big decisions and keeps you afloat when you feel weighed down.
When you are aware of the things in your life for which you are thankful, you feel gratitude for more things. It’s a cycle. It’s something you can easily do that will greatly influence your overall mindset.
What are you grateful for? I’d love to know!
Love,
